Who we are

From Here to Haiti (FHTH) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity based in New York. FHTH was formed in the aftermath of the earthquake of 2010 to respond to the need for repair of non-governmental places of public assembly such as schools, churches, orphanages, clinics, and the like. FHTH creates local employment opportunities and promotes self-sufficiency for the people of Haiti through that repair work. FHTH focuses its efforts in the provinces where the need is greatest.

The organization is staffed by volunteers, they pay for their own travel expenses, and room and board is provided by the community that made the request, allowing all donations to fund the projects. So far FHTH has completed over 50 projects, provided temporary employment to hundreds of Haitians and improved the lives of thousands of children.

FHTH’s methodology is simple, transparent and community driven. Once a project is approved and funded, materials are purchased from merchants in Haiti.  When they are delivered to the site a group of two to five volunteers travels to work with as many from the community as needed to finish the work usually in about a week. Fundraising efforts include dinners, dances, walks, art exhibits, individual donations and grants.
